Applications for Entry in Year 7
Applications for Year 7 are managed by the High Performing Students Unit (HPSU) of the NSW Department of Education. For full details, including dates and application forms, please see their web site.
2024 Entry
Applications for entry to Year 7 2024 are now closed. The HPSU will advise applicants of the results of the entry test in mid to late August 2023.
2025 Entry
Applications for entry to Year 7 in 2025 are expected to open in October 2023 and will remain open for approximately 4 weeks.

Applications for Entry in Years 8 to 10
For general information about enrolling in a selective high school please see the Department of Education website. Please note the section on Residency requirements. Students must be Australian Citizens or Permanent Residents of Australia, New Zealand citizens, or Permanent Residents of Norfolk Island. Evidence of citizenship status is required before enrolment can proceed.
It is important to note that there are very few places available each year in Years 8-10. Most years, there are one or two places that become available in any given year group and some year groups will have no available places.

The key dates for the 2024 Years 8-10 enrolment intake are:
Tuesday 20 June 2023 Applications are expected to open
Friday 21 July Applications are expected to close
Saturday 29 July 2023 Entry test date
Once the applications open you will need complete the online form, Years 8-11 2024 Expression of Interest (this link will be active as of 20 June 2023) and attach the following documents:
- Completed Department of Education application form (link will be available here from 20 June 2023)
- School academic reports for Semester 1 2023 and Semester 2 2022
- The most recent NAPLAN results
- Any other relevant supporting documents
As an academically selective high school, students must also sit a selection test. Conducted by Edutest, the link for test registration and payment of $130 will be posted on 20 June 2023. Interstate or overseas applicants please email: remote@edutest.com.au immediately after registering as remote testing incurs an additional fee.
Test date: Saturday 29 July 2023
Start time: Students to arrive at 8:45 am for registration; 9:00am test start
Finish time: Approximately 12:00pm
Venue: AF Henry Hall at North Sydney Boys High School
Test registration and payment via the Edutest website will open on 20 June 2023.
The combined application processing fee and Edutest fee of $130 must be paid by credit card direct to Edutest. General information about Edutest testing is available at the Edutest parent and student page at this link.
On the test day, students must bring:
- a photo ID; acceptable ID includes a current school photo, library card or passport
- two lead pencils
- black or blue pen
No calculators are permitted.
The test will include sections on:
- Verbal Reasoning
- Numerical Reasoning
- Reading Comprehension
- Mathematics and
- Written Expression.
Each section is 30 minutes long.
Online practice tests are available for purchase from the Edutest website. Overseas students should contact remote@edutest.com.au to arrange a local testing location.
The school’s selection panel will convene to evaluate applications and a Reserve List will be created for each year. Interviews may be held to determine the outcome. Students will be advised in writing if they were unsuccessful or if they have been placed on the Reserve List. Students on the Reserve List will be contacted during Term 4 if a place becomes available.
Applications for Entry in Year 11
For general information about enrolling in a selective high school please see the Department of Education website. Please note the section on Residency requirements. Students must be Australian Citizens or Permanent Residents of Australia, New Zealand citizens, or Permanent Residents of Norfolk Island. Evidence of citizenship status is required before enrolment can proceed.
Each year we take up to an additional 15 students who meet the entry criteria into Year 11. Students entering Year 11 are advised that the school has a policy that students may study a maximum of two (2) science courses in the senior years. This policy is not negotiable.

The testing will be held concurrently with our existing Year 10 cohort to ensure that there is consistency with benchmarking for entry into the highly competitive senior courses.

The cost of application for Year 11 2024 is $130.00 directly to the school. A link will be made available for payment on 20 June 2023. Applications will not be processed without payment. On the test day, students must bring:
- a photo ID; acceptable ID includes a current school photo, library card or passport
- two lead pencils
- black or blue pen
The school’s selection panel will convene to evaluate applications and an Offer List will be created. Interviews may be held to determine the outcome. Students will be advised in writing if they were successful or unsuccessful.
Successful applicants and their parents/carers will be invited to attend the Year 11 2024 Subject Selection Information Evening which will be held via Zoom on Thursday 10 August 2023. Subject selection opens the following day and closes one week later on Friday 18 August 2023.

As North Sydney Boys High School is a fully selective school, support students are taught in discreet classes and are not fully integrated into the academic program of the school. Support students do participate in whole-school events such as carnivals, co-curricular projects, extra-curricular activities, integrated sport and camps.
Please note the school does not hold separate Open Days for Support students. Once you are offered a position you will be invited to attend an Orientation.
